How to Know You are Bound for Heaven

Perhaps you have considered questions like, "What happens after death? Where will I go after I die? Is there a heaven?" Undoubtedly, the most important question that you will ever answer is, "If I were to die today, am I positively sure that I would spend eternity in Heaven with God?" The simple truth is that God wants you to know for sure.

God gave us His Word, the Bible, that we might know "the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world" (John 1:9). Jesus said, "I am the light of the world" (John 8:12). He wants to have a relationship with you so that you will "not walk in darkness." Here's how:

First, you must come to realize your need for a personal Saviour. Without Jesus Christ in your life, you are bound for certain shipwreck because of your sin. The Bible says in Romans 3:23, "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Simply put, no one is perfect. The question is, are you willing to admit that fact?

Here's the problem: sin must be paid for. Romans 6:23 puts it this way, "For the wages of sin is death..." Just as you collect a wage for the work you do, so you will collect on sin - eternal death separated from God in a place the Bible calls Hell. Because of our sin, there is no way that any of us can make it to Heaven on our own.

Here's the good news: God has shown us His Light! Romans 6:23 continues, "...but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 5:8 explains how He did it: "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

Second, you must believe that Jesus Christ wants to be your personal Saviour. Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came to earth, lived a perfect life, and willingly died on the cross to literally pay for all of your sin. He took your punishment for all your sin. Why? Because He loves you.

John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Because of God's great love, Jesus came to make a way for you to be forgiven of all your sin and to give you eternal life.

Third, you must put your complete trust in Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour. Romans 10:10 and 13 say this, "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation...For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." It is as simple as asking and receiving - believing in your heart that God will save you.

If you have never asked Jesus Christ to be your personal Saviour, what would stop you from doing it right now? With the Light of the world in your heart, you will avoid making a shipwreck of your life and divert certain destruction. You could pray something like this:

Dear Lord Jesus, I believe that you are God, that You came and died for my sin, and that You rose again from death. I admit that I am a sinner, and I ask You right now to be my personal Saviour. I place my complete trust in You alone to save me; I accept Your gift of eternal life. Thank You for keeping Your promise! Amen.

If you have just trusted the Lord Jesus to save you, we would love to know of your decision and help you learn more about your new relationship. Please give us a call and let us know today!
